A moratorium on new licenses for virtual asset services is in effect until December 31, 2025, while the Financial Services Commission (FSC) develops a comprehensive regulatory framework. The FSC has enacted the Digital Asset Services Licensing Regulations, 2025, which will govern licensing requirements once the moratorium is lifted. Currently, no new licenses are being issued.
Belize operates a territorial tax system, meaning only income sourced within Belize is subject to income tax. There is no capital gains tax. Profits from cryptocurrency activities conducted on foreign-based platforms are generally considered foreign-sourced income and are therefore tax-exempt for Belizean residents.
